The reversal takes some of the fun out of it, but oh well. Looking forward to next year's betting special

I didn't even participate this year because unfortunately fireworksordie 's website simply refused to work for me and would not allow me to submit my bets but based on these results I doubt I'll be participating next year either if they're just gonna be playing it this fast and loose with their own rules.

did you disable adblockers like it said on the submit page or at least try a different browser? i didn't receive any other complaints of issues other than the few hours it was down the night it launched...

I would honestly be ok with the bet being "true" if Kyle didn't say in the betting special that it didn't count if it was announced at the Concert.
...

Now that's Kyle's big fuck up lol. I do wonder if this is going to be used as a set up for another trial, which would be great.

A possible monologue name.
The Assassination of Betting Specials by the Coward Kyle Bosman. (or Michael Huber if you prefer)

The crazy shenanigans is part of what makes the EZA betting stuff so fun. Don't take it too seriously.

That being said, I think next year they should change the rules to "anything announced between Saturday and Tuesday." Period.

I would completely be ok with that rule as I think it would help a lot. But that would make it less vague, which isn't what Kyle wants.

I think the issue is that you and others have an incorrect assumption that the word announcement only means the first time something is said. An announcement is just a statement, the words are synonyms. Now if you want to argue that the spirit of the bet was that it was supposed to mean the first time it was announced, that's a different (and slightly better) argument.

I honestly think the connotation of "announcement" when talking about video games is almost always the FIRST time something is revealed. You wouldn't say Microsoft ANNOUNCED Halo Infinite or Gears 5 this year, right? Or even if you would, most people would not word it that way. The existence of Cyberpunk was not announced, but Keanu being in it and the release date was.

Edit: Another version of the same example. If CNET or Forbes or something ran a story Monday morning with a headline that said "Microsoft announces Cyberpunk 2077... " they would get eviscerated online for seeming dumb. Because that was obviously announced a long time ago.

Totally cool with the FF7R judgement. Thanks for the Don bucks, Kyle/Huber!

(Almost wish I put more on it)

The thing is even if you were correct, which you're not, it had already been established during the betting special itself that the announcement wouldn't count if it happened during the concert. Literally. On tape. That is something that Damiani had specifically asked clarification on and was decisive to him betting the way he did. To then decide not to honor their own call based solely on "vibes" or whatever is extremely unsportsmanlike, to say the least.

Basically, Damiani got cheated out of an extremely specific winning bet and that just rubs me the wrong way.

This format seemed good at first, but it's actually super lame if someone just makes a max bet like Huber and wins that way. The results show couldn't have been more boring. I hope they forget this total degeneration business in the future.

I mean, TECHNICALLY, by the dictionary definition of the word, an announcement doesn't have to be the first time something is made known. It can only be argued by common usage, which I think mostly is for new information, or the "spirit" of the bet. But you can't really say he's definitively wrong like that lol.

I'm not sure they can do it again. The "Polling the patrons to help with part of the betting special PSYCHE it is the betting special" trick can only work once. The temptation to game the system now may be to great. Especially since ties go to the "dreamers".

I apologize if I came across as suggesting there was a problem on your end since that wasn't my intention. You went so far above and beyond with that project that I have nothing but respect for all the work you put in. But it's not like I made it my life's mission to figure out what was going wrong so once it seemed like my submission wasn't gonna go through I simply moved on fairly quickly lol.

Sure, except that if we were to apply their technical, dictionary definition of the term then it would pretty much render any announcements ever made useless for the purpose of a betting special since after all they would always count as a new announcement for someone, somewhere.

So yeah, technically correct, if you wanna get obstinate, but also technically infeasible in this case, in my opinion.

They should have just used the word reveal instead of announce. I look forward to the trial.

God damn you Bosman! I could definitely feel Ian's frustration with them counting the release date, despite explicitly saying it wouldn't count, while Devolver's conference didn't count.

Loved the video. BTW, refresh my memory, but the lore thing at the end, there was this character I feel I have seen before, who was it?

I dunno why anyone should care what Kyle wants when he says one thing beforehand and then flip flops after bets have been placed. It's really dumb.

That'd be Rainy Day Ian. The lore runs deeper and deeper.

The person with the umbrella that walked by?

Well, the only umbrella-wielding figure that I can think of in EZA Lore would be...

Damiani was so screwed over. But there's always drama and salt with these bets, it's part of the deal.

I do hope we get a group stream of Damiani taking this to the committee, if only for the lore building possibilities.

Voted No on the FF7 bet on the promise it wouldn't count if it were announced at the concert. Rules changed for absolutely no reason. Thanks for taking all my money guys it leaves a great taste in my mouth. Why even participate if the rules aren't followed?
I'm still 100% participating next time lolol

I ended up winning and then losing the FFVII bet and am still glad they reversed it, lol. Didn't make any sense to me that No would win that bet.

Preparing those monologues is going to be so brutal.

An announcement is just a formal statement about something, it's not time based and only the first one counts.

No. By this logic, FFVIIR itself was also 'announced' at the concert, Death Stranding was 'announced' with the trailer a couple of weeks ago, and Halo Infinite was 'announced' a week ago at Microsoft's 2019 E3.

I know the dictionary definition doesn't technically say say that it's time-based, but in reality that's not how anyone uses the word, and that becomes very clear with examples.

The best case scenario imo would be a trial. Doesn't matter which side wins since it'd be entertaining lol

I don't know anything about Kingdom Hearts, so my way of weaseling out of a 5 minute monologue, would be to take the role of a "prophet" or something, and just read a reworded Wikipedia plot synopsis of the series as a "prophecy" of what will happen.

I can't believe that they reversed their ruling on Final Fantasy 7, when Bosman explicitly said that the Square-Enix Concert wouldn't count. Plenty of viewers placed their bets based on that stipulation. Their reasoning "Let's reward the dreamers" is nonsensical as well.

Then Bosman straight-up just admits that he robbed Damian -- the very guy whose bet prompted him to clarify that the concert doesn't count.

Bleh. I don't think any of this will go to trial, just because it makes no real difference in the standings.

Have they don'e Trial By Combat before?

I have a vague memory of some previous dispute being decided by a Mario Party competition, but I'm not sure if it was the Easy Allies crew or some other YouTubers.

I literally bet the FF7 bet around the clarification the concert thing didn't count.

Yeah it's for fun but that was explicitly made part of the bet right there, lol. There really can't be controversy when that exact thing is brought up and preemptively had a ruling on it.

not that this makes things any less frustrating for some, but, impressively, vagant76 would have won either way. no matter which way the remaining calls had gone, vagant76 came out on top. so that's kinda neat
